Me and My Kangaroo

Justin Roberts

Tell us about your music:

I write songs for families that explore the joys and sorrows of growing up. I try to celebrate the little moments in childhood that connect the child to the adult. I hope that the songs resonate with kids but also help adults reconnect with their youth.

About your song:

This song was recorded live in a room with acoustic guitar, ukulele, upright bass, and percussion on cardboard boxes and paint cans. I didn’t think too much about what I wanted to write a song about. I just came up with the first line and it made me laugh. I wanted to make a somewhat silly song about supposedly being bored that celebrated the imagination and the joys of making up your own world.

What you hope children & families will get from this song:

I hope it will make families laugh as they imagine a person who has a pet kangaroo and is bored. Hopefully, they will be reminded that the world is magical and filled with possibilities.
